Salamanca at Night

After a disappointing dinner experience, I thought about calling it a night, but decided to give Salamanca another chance. I'm so glad I did. The sun doesn't set until after 10:00pm in the summer, but once it does, all the old buildings are illuminated, glowing pale gold against a velvet blue sky. I wandered down to Plaza Anaya and back. Some streets were empty and calm, while the squares were packed with students and tourists. I watched some cranes bedding down in their church tower nests for the night. Back at the hotel, I took a second shower to get rid of the horrible cigarette smell from dinner. The lights outside my hotel window were off by midnight and I got a great night's sleep.
